Cyber Monday Online Shopping Tips

Posted on November 28th, 2008 in Tips & Tutorial | No Comments »

After the wild rush to the malls over the weekend, everyone’s back at work. For many, the shopping continues on high-speed Internet office computers. This online shopping frenzy is being called Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday – it’s the start of the holiday shopping season online, and a great day for bargains; but only if you know how to find them. Here are several tips that should help:

Track the Deals

Use CyberMonday.com and dealio.com to stay on top of all of the Cyber Monday deals across the web, including information about free shipping offers and coupons.

Sign Up for Newsletters

If you plan to shop at a particular retailer, be sure to sign up for their e-newsletter a few weeks before the sales begin. It’s a good way to stay abreast of special deals and promotions, and a great way to score special subscriber-only coupons.

Shop at Sites that Offer Free Shipping

Many, but not all, stores offer free shipping on Cyber Monday; so spend some time looking for those free shipping deals. Don’t see free shipping offered on the site that you’re on? Then, check a competitor’s site.

Seek Out Coupon Codes

Head to currentcodes.com, retailmenot.com or one of the many other sites dedicated to finding and posting coupon codes. You may just find a deal – free shipping, free merchandise, a percent off your order – to sweeten the pot.

Bonus Tip: Bookmark Retailmenot.com. Then, the next time you’re shopping online, just click on the link, and it’ll display all of the coupons for the site that you’re on – now that’s bargain shopping made easy!

Order through a Rewards Site

Access a store’s website through a rewards site, and you’ll earn points or even cash for your efforts. Some rewards sites worth checking out: Upromise, MyPoints, FatWallet and Ebates.

Compare Prices

Before you place an order, use a price comparison website like pricegrabber.com to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

YouTube Video Making and Upload Tips

Posted on November 7th, 2008 in Tips & Tutorial | 1 Comment »

Video Formats: Transferring from DVD to YouTube
DVD files (such as .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files) can’t be uploaded to YouTube. These are not actual video files but files used as part of the DVD container format. Our recommended file format is MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid, or SVQ3 rather than h.264) at 640×480 resolution with MP3 audio (64k mono).
You can learn more about uploading videos here.

Before uploading a video, you may want to go through our Terms of Use and Copyright FAQ. This may give you a better understanding of the type of videos you can upload.

YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG transferred from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones.

If you don’t think your current video file format is recognized by YouTube, you may get the best results from converting your file to MPEG4 video with MP3 audio.

All you need to do is continue uploading the highest quality video you have available. The quality of the uploaded video combined with individual viewers’ bandwidth will determine if the video is displayed at “Higher Quality.”

Not satisfied with that answer? Still need specific information? YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG. Here are a few things that may work well for you:

MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
MP3 audio
Video resolution: 480×360 or higher
Frame Rate: 24fps or higher

What video file formats can I upload? youtube accepts video files from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones in the .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats.

We’ve found that files converted from .wmv to one of the other formats our webpage accepts generally have a lower playback quality than other file formats. If you have your source video in a format other than a .wmv file, I’d recommend encoding directly to MPEG4 (DivX, Xvid, SQV3) at 320×240, with 64k Mono MP3 Audio. If you have a source .wmv in high bitrate and larger resolution I’d recommend converting to MPEG4 at full resolution and then resizing to 320×240 using a high quality resizing algorithm - this can help reduce the number of artifacts you end up with.
Editing and Exporting Videos: Transferring from camera to computer
If you already have a digital camcorder (one that captures in Digital8, MiniDV, HDV, or any of the DVD formats), then you’re ready to start shooting your masterpiece. Your camcorder will need some kind of direct connection to your computer, either to the USB or FireWire ports or by inserting the DVD you’ve recorded. Once you’ve downloaded the video from the camera, you can upload it to YouTube or bring it into an editing program to play with it some more.
If you have an analog camcorder (one that uses VHS, VHS-C, SVHS-C, 8mm, or Hi8 tape), you can still get your videos onto YouTube. It will require an extra step and some additional equipment, though, since these camcorders are not usually equipped with computer connections. You’ll need to digitize the video with a converter box, which will convert the analog signal from the camcorder to a digital signal that the computer can understand. After the video has been digitized, you can manipulate it further or upload it.

How to View Pictures on DVD Player

Posted on November 7th, 2008 in Tips & Tutorial | No Comments »

You don’t need to burn a specially formatted disc but just a regular data DVD full of digital photos if you own a DVD player with built-in slide-show features for viewing JPEG images. Lots of new type DVD players have the features such as Sony DVP-NS57P, Pioneer DV-490V-S, LG DN788, Panasonic DVD-S53S/K, Philips DVP5982 and etc. Different types of players with different play menu, photo quantity limitation and so on. So, DVDs display in this style via my Sony player but that on my friend’s Panasonic.

If your DVD player doesn’t have such features, creating DVD photo slide shows via apps will be help and it is a much more stunning and professional way for storage and share. Bellows are kinds of apps.

1. Free apps that can create photo slideshows.

Google’s Picasa, is a free software download from Google. Picasa can make photo slideshows with simple clicks and copy files to DVD media using both the “Backup” and “Gift CD” features, but DVDs create by Picasa can not be played on all types of DVD players.

Windows Movie Maker , included free in XP and Vista, helps to create AVI or WMA slideshows. Although it doesn’t natively burn DVDs playable by many DVD players, Windows Movie Maker has many powerful features (say exquisite effects) to magnetize users and adding DVD writing capabilities to Windows Movie Maker with inexpensive applications will figure it out.

2. Commercial apps wholly make for creating DVD slide shows.

Nero PhotoShow Deluxe 5 ($39.99) is famous and powerful software which includes a massive amount of slide-show-authoring options for photo DVDs. Nero has a 15-day trial for PhotoShow Deluxe, while the free PhotoDVD trial lets you create slide shows with up to 100 images. As a sub-product from Nero, it has highly stability on its writing capability.

DVD Slideshow Builder 4 ($49.95), another professional and popular app that can create DVD photo slideshows with photos, video clips and music in high-resolution HD DVD video format and burn directly. It provides a free trial version with Watermark on output, 30-day trial limitation. What it attract me is its plenty 2D/3D transitions and Ken-Burns effects.
